If you attend one of Journey Within’s classes
taught by Liz Konkel, a Professional Intuitive Energy Healer and Inspirational
Spiritual Teacher, you might notice something different. Liz Konkel, born
profoundly Deaf, uses American Sign Language (ASL) to communicate. There is
an ASL interpreter in the back of the class voicing everything Liz is signing
and the interpreter signs what the hearing students are saying.
When asked how
she became a Spiritual Teacher at Journey Within, Liz said she had
contacted the founder of Journey Within, Anita Destino, to see if she
could enroll in one of her classes, “Learn to Heal with Angels” class if
could find an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter to interpret the
class. Anita was very open to this and made sure everything was
accessible for Liz (and her other students). They were able to find an
ASL interpreter for the class and after taking the “Learn to Heal with
Angels” class, she was hooked! Liz then proceeded to take all of the
classes at Journey Within using various interpreters and then became a
Spiritual Teacher herself. She says, “I love how Anita Destino and
Journey Within taught me tools on how to use my intuition and healing
abilities and can now share this with others! It is a full circle for me
as I was once a student and now I can share what I’ve learned and my
experiences with others. We use an ASL interpreter for the classes (and
for guided mediations and other events like the Pet Healing Clinic) and
they interpret everything. The classes are open to both hearing and deaf
students so it is accessible for everyone involved! I’m grateful to be
able to provide direct access for students who are Deaf or Hard of
Hearing.”
Anita Destino
says that they have been fortunate and blessed to have worked with
several incredible interpreters at Journey Within and even some of them
decide to take classes there as well. Journey Within is open to
everyone!
In addition to
teaching classes at Journey Within, Liz also offers Intuitive Energy
Healings and Readings to people and pets. She can work with both hearing
and deaf clients and can also do phone appointments (video phone for the
deaf community). She has worked with clients in other states and can do
remote healings/readings as well as angel card readings, house healings,
and private parties.
